Massage Techniques :: What is Swedish Massage?

Swedish Massage is the most common massage technique in the West. It uses long, gliding strokes to gently relax the muscles and body, and is a wonderful starting point for anyone new to receiving massage. It’s lighter pressure and fluid movements create a serene, relaxing experience, and helps relieve stress, anxiety, and minor muscle issues.

Massage Techniques :: What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage is a type of therapy that addresses long-term, chronic pain within the muscles, tendons, fascia, and joints. It uses long, firm strokes with additional pressure to reach the deepest layers of the muscle tissue. While it can be uncomfortable at points, it is particularly effective as a long-term strategy for prolonged muscle pain.

Massage Techniques :: What is Hot Stone Massage?

Hot Stone Massage is a technique that uses lava stones that have been worn smooth by the sea, that are heated, and then placed on the body. The stones are cooled to an appropriate temperature for the client by turning them in cold water.

The stones can be placed directly on the body, on top of towels or sheets, as well as used in gliding motions to deepen the affect of the heat and the massage itself. It is a gentle, soothing technique useful for many different methods of body work.

Massage Techniques :: What is Ashiatsu?

Massage can be an intensive process, not just for the patient but for the therapist as well. Ashiatsu is a massage technique that uses feet, elbows, and forearms, which allows the therapist to increase pressure, spread out the impact area, and can relieve some muscular stress the therapist can feel during a traditional Swedish massage.

Massage Techniques :: What is Gua Sha?

This centuries-old technique uses small, rounded spoons and tools to gently “scrub” the skin, which helps activate capillaries and bring stuck toxins, blood, and chi to the skin’s surface. Though the technique looks painful, it is quite safe and is usually quite comfortable and relaxing.

ETHRA presents “Everything You Need to Know About CBD Oil But Were Afraid to Ask”

Recently, we had the opportunity to attend a talk on the benefits, misconceptions, and future of CBD Oil, its uses and it’s place in Tennessee. Here is a brilliant video of a similar talk presented this past February at South College, along with a link to the power point presentation!

21 Days of Yoga with Knoxville Weekend

Workout and exercise trends come and go, but there is hardly another practice that has endured as long as yoga. Some historians believe yoga can be traced back more than 5,000 years! Sure, the styles and flows have changed over the centuries, but the core elements remain the same: strengthening the body, toning the muscles, centering the mind, and calming the spirit.

We worked with Knoxville Weekend to put together a basic, 21 day yoga series that is perfect for anyone, from beginners to life-long practitioners. Check back each day for additional poses, then put them all together for a flow you can do from the comfort of your own home, office, on the road, or anywhere!

Practicing Acupuncture with Knoxville Weekend

There are a lot of misconceptions about acupuncture. Ask most people what it is and you will probably get a dozen different answers. Acupuncture is SO much more than just having some needles stuck into your skin. We had the opportunity to work with Knoxville Weekend, along with two other amazing local acupuncturists, to help clear the air and help people understand what acupuncture is, what it can treat, and how it can help!
